CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

Ministry Overview

Vision: To partner with the family to develop kids who are rooted in God’s Word, who are warriors for Jesus Christ and who share their faith in the world.

Jesus said, Let the little children come to Me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these – Matthew 19:14

A Typical Sunday

Family worship (9:30 am – Sanctuary): We invite the children to join the SComm congregation as we worship the Lord together. This is an opportunity for them to worship with their family and church community. Occasionally, there are worship sessions held exclusively for families with children.

Nursery (10 am): We welcome children under the age of 2.5 years to our nursery. Along with parents and volunteers, we hope to provide a safe and fun environment for your little ones.

Preschool – senior kindergarten (10 am): Through crafts, activities and Bible stories, we hope to teach the children about who God is, using the First Look ORANGE curriculum.

Grade 1 – 6 (10 am): After family worship, we gather in the fellowship hall for a lesson and big group time. Then they split off into small groups for activities and discussions. Through the 252 curriculum, they will learn how to apply biblical truths in their daily lives.

Our Curriculum

The Orange Curriculum

Orange is the program adopted by our Children’s Ministry. It is an expression of the joining of the ministry of the home (red) with the ministry of the church (yellow) to produce Orange.

First Look
We want to give your child a first look at the nature of God and understand that:

  • God made me
  • God loves me
  • Jesus wants to be my friend forever

252 Basics
Based on Luke 2:52, we want every child to grow in wisdom, faith and friendship. We hope to teach the children to boldly say that:

  1. I need to make the wise choice
  2. I can trust God no matter what
  3. I should treat others the way I want to be treated
